I am so excited because I have a bunch of awesome things I need to post about but today I am going to talk about the AMAZING makeup class that I took last week. One of the things that I really love about makeup is that I continually am learning all the time. Whether it's something I discover on my own, from another fellow artist or by taking a class, it keeps things exciting and I am literally never bored. So to get to spend a week learning from top celebrity makeup artists was an absolute dream come true.
Here is Kelli and I right before our first class, super pumped!
The first day started out right with Stephen Dimmick, Jessie Powers and Sam Fine where we learned about beauty, color theory and working with darker skin tones. I was especially excited to learn more about working with women of color. I find that here in Portland, we don't get as much opportunity to as I would like but it is extremely important to prepared and able to work with all skin tones.
At the end of each day we did a hands on workshop where we chose something that we learned from the day to practice. Because we were given the teeny tiniest space to work out of, I really had to condense me kit which was certainly a challenge. If you know me, you know that I use a giant snowboard bag to house my kit. I was able to get it down to a small makeup briefcase and backpack.
Did I mention all the free makeup we got!?
During the week we learned how to work with mature skin, men's grooming, red carpet beauty, editorial makeup among tons of other techniques. I got to meet and talk to some of my favorite artists including Beau Nelson, Roshar and Pati Dubrof, who I completely nerded out on and may have stuttered when I introduced myself.
In an industry that can at times be catty, it was really cool that every single one of the artists that taught at this event was kind, humble and friendly. I also got a chance to hang out with a lot of Portland's makeup artist. It was really fun to have so many of us together at once.
The last performance of the event was with the legendary Alex Box. It was such an incredible experience. All the lights in the room were off except where she was working, she had a beautiful playlist going. It was so inspiring that I cried and I know that I was not the only one.
After all was over there was a dance party! So much fun, I already got my ticket for next year!
Here is me with the fabulous woman who put on this event, Erica Carr. If you are an artist wanting your mind blown in 2017, go to www.imgoingtoclass.com.
